The Attack Mechanism

An ATG operation requires a position in the supply chain: a point that content, code, configuration, or data passes through on its way to a device. The adversary has to hold that point without the applications and users depending on it noticing.

Placement and Access (P&A) is the condition any ATG operation requires: an actor holds a spot from which what a device receives can be changed. An adversary reaches that spot by one of seven acquisition pathways, can occupy it anywhere across the APA Vector Landscape, turns holding it into effect along the P&A → Influence → Control chain, and can take it through any of the surfaces in the cross-surface attack model.

Ownership Opacity is the condition that a defender usually cannot find out who owns or controls a piece of digital infrastructure, because nothing public records it. Adversaries work inside that condition through Adversarial Asset Cycling, and four missing ownership-tracking capabilities keep it in place.
